Our Story

Natalie Claire Woodcock founded the Sutherland Shire Children’s Choir as part of her life’s mission to sing and facilitate community singing. Choristers develop their singing voice, musical skills and confidence in an atmosphere of fun and encouragement.
For over 15 years, the Sutherland Shire Children’s Choir has been proud to provide high quality singing tuition and exceptional performance opportunities to talented young shire singers!
All our vocal activities and ‘games’ are purposeful and based in vocal pedagogy and the Kodaly philosophies of teaching music. Our students develop healthy vocal technique, aural skills and musical literacy. We take a holistic approach to teaching singing with the view that our students will develop a lifelong love of music.
There are four separate choir groups catering to our different levels and ages of students. Each group meets for a weekly rehearsal and receives regular performance opportunities including a professional album recording.
The Sutherland Shire Children’s Choir has developed a reputation as being a leading performing arts organisation. Nowadays, we are invited to perform at high profile events and provide singers for professional work. The upper levels of the choir are selected to perform solos and receive extra performance opportunities. Recent highlights include events at the State Theatre, Sydney Town Hall, Woolworths ad filming & Tip Top Bread vocal recording.
Parents value the hidden elements of our curriculum; a focus on developing confidence, self-esteem and presentation skills. Growing up in the SSCC transforms even the shyest children into confident young people who have the ability to stand in front of a crowd.
