What Will My Child Receive?
Helping your child feel included, important, connected and valued is at the heart of everything we do. We will be playing plenty of get to know you games and closely monitor that every child is making friends and settling into our choir family. The children enjoy making new friends with a mutual interest in singing. We love watching our students grow in confidence over the years!
All our vocal activities and ‘games’ are purposeful and based in vocal pedagogy and the Kodaly philosophies of teaching music. Our students develop healthy vocal technique, aural skills and musical literacy. We take a holistic approach to teaching singing with the view that our students will develop a lifelong love of music.
Your child will learn lots of songs! We keep the repertoire fresh and cover a wide range of musical genres including popular, musical theatre, classics, world music, folk, Australiana and humorous selections. Repertoire selected is quality music that is developmentally appropriate and enjoyable. Melody lines allocated to each choir are in line with the capabilities of the singers. The senior voices lead the younger singers in the combined items offering choristers an enriched musical experience and the opportunity to perform as part of a strong and unified choir.
The Sutherland Shire Children’s Choir has developed a reputation as being a leading performing arts organisation. Nowadays, we are invited to perform at high profile events and provide singers for professional work. The upper levels of the choir are selected to perform solos and receive extra performance opportunities. Recent highlights include events at the State Theatre, Sydney Town Hall, Woolworths ad filming & Tip Top Bread vocal recording.
Parents value the hidden elements of our curriculum; a focus on developing confidence, self-esteem and presentation skills. Growing up in the SSCC transforms even the shyest children into confident young people who have the ability to stand in front of a crowd.
We make it a priority to keep fees to a minimum. There are no costumes to purchase, surprise concert participation fees etc.The cost of everything you need to participate in all the rehearsals and performances is included in the upfront enrolment fee.
All of our photos and videos are accessible for free via our social media. The album is free to stream.
Parents deserve to feel connected but not overwhelmed with information. We will email regular brief newsletters with key dates and important information well in advance.

Choir places are limited. We include children who are committed to the choir and who love the idea of being part of the ‘choir team’ long term. Enrolment is on a yearly basis so that the choir has continuity and time to develop as a group. Helping students build a long term love for singing is what lights us up.
All current choristers are invited to re-enrol at the end of each year.
Choristers are offered a position in a specific level of the choir for the following year. The level offered is based on the teacher’s assessment of development over the choir year. Places are guaranteed until the enrolment deadline.
Rehearsals are currently being held at the Loftus Community Centre.
We are conveniently located near Loftus train station, playground and shops.
